Anora, a young sex worker from Brooklyn, impulsively meets and marries the son of an oligarch
As soon as the news reaches Russia, her fairy tale is threatened when her parents leave for New York to annul the marriage. IMDb editor Arno Kazarian offers brief reviews of 12 films that screened at the 2024 New York Film Festival, including Anora and the dangerous and curiously erotic Mercy. At the Cannes Film Festival press conference, Mikey Madison said that director Sean Baker would act in different sexual positions with his wife, producer Samantha Quan, to show the actors what he wanted them to do.

I know making a movie takes a lot of effort and writing a review takes a few minutes. Anyway, I wanted to write my thoughts. I really wanted to see this movie, I liked another Sean Baker movie, “Project Florida”.
And I saw a few others
“Anora” has a nice atmosphere, the actors do their job well, but I found the humor repetitive, as well as some scenes that I personally would cut. The movie is too long for this story. Also, the Russians seemed like a caricature to me, especially the evil mother.
I feel like the script could have been written and edited better
The first part is not bad, but the second part, which starts with the Armenians invading “the mansion”, was fun at first, but then got boring for me. The last scenes with Yura Borisov added depth to the characters and I started to feel something for them. Overall, it’s not a bad movie, but it’s not something I would enjoy watching again.
