Local rebellious teenager Clotaire falls in love with his schoolmate Jackie – but gang violence leads him down a darker destructive path. Heartbeat was the lowest-rated film in the main competition of the 2024 Cannes Film Festival by both French and international critics, who complained that the film was too long, full of cliches, misogyny, that it ripped off several classic American films, that the love story was not believable and that the two main actors have no chemistry and that they were overshadowed by two teenagers who played younger versions of their characters. Several critics and regular moviegoers also questioned why this film was selected for the main competition at Cannes when there were better films out of competition or on the sidelines that could have taken its place instead.

Screen International’s Cannes’ jury gave the film a score of 1.4 out of 4 stars, while Chaos Reign’s Cannes jury gave the film a score of 0.9 out of 4 stars and Ioncinema’s jury gave it a score of 1.6 out of 5 stars . On Metacritic’s article on the best and worst films of Cannes 2024, Beating Hearts was listed first among the "disappointments" list.. One of the characters wears a 1990s Rolex Daytona Ceramic, but the watch was only released in 2016..
You expect the movie to start again when you see old kids on grown people well
I honestly expected a lot from this movie for 3 months and I honestly feel very disappointed with the script because it’s very bad and boring you don’t expect finally the kind of story that is explained and happens like because there was a very good proposal and a great potential to get one of the best stories love for the cinematographic industry, too bad! First of all, the script is excellent, you have everything to make such a good story that will cost you the audience, but unfortunately the way of managing the script that the scriptwriters played poorly… because the old period that explains the childhood is nice, but too long and you feel bored because so many things happened and that' very useful for showing and explaining, like 30 minutes to show the past will be great, but 1 hour and 15 minutes is too long !!!
because an alternative to some other ideas will be great, but it didn’t happened
note that nothing moves everything is too slow, there is not so much action, then the main character could redeem his old trouble, take revenge on all the people who they released it but he didn’t ;t … i think the story will be better with ideas and i’m so disappointed that the dramatic scene wasn’t present enough very bad because it will be a great story !!!And as for the script, the two main actors that we love, they play only 20 minutes together, that’s not enough for a very long film of 2 hours 40 minutes and too bad because we expected more moments with these two actors, a very bad point … Direction, soundtrack, play of light and colors make crew, those are only the good sides of the movie with also beautiful acting by all the cast, but for me the very bad sides are that the script is very slow and too long that it killed the movie…
