Different Energy Sources

Different energy sources provide us with the power we need to live and work. These include solar, wind geothermal, biomass, and geothermal sources. These sources are not only the primary source of electricity, but they can also be used to heat and transport. The major issue for these energy sources is that they may cause greenhouse gas emissions when used to produce electricity. This means that there is a need for renewable energy sources that are more sustainable.

The most popular type of energy is the fossil fuels, which consist of coal, oil, and natural gas. They were created millions of year ago when prehistoric animals and plants died and were buried beneath layers of sedimentary rocks. If the conditions were right, these fossil fuels were slowly transformed into carbon-rich materials which, when burned create energy. These fossil fuels cannot be recycled since they will be exhausted in our lifetimes, or in a number of lifetimes.

Renewable energy sources are continuously replenished. The sun is the primary source of renewable energy since it provides warmth and light. We use it to power our homes and businesses, as well as to drive vehicles. Wind is renewable energy source that produces electricity by spinning turbines. We have been using it since people first began to harness the wind for millennia. We use biological processes to produce ethanol (a alcohol-like substance that is clear and transparent which can be used as fuel) from crops and waste.

Among these sources hydropower is the most significant renewable energy source in the United States, though wind and biofuels are expected to become the leading source of energy in the near future. Hydropower utilizes the natural water cycle to harness the water’s rapid flow, which in turn is used to generate electricity.
